"We've NEVER Seen This Before!" -Polaris Representative

I am linking up for my weekly dose of inspiration from Mama Kat with her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop.

Assignment:  Tell Us About Something You Broke.

Hmmm...this was an easy one for me.  Kinda.  Actually, no...it was really hard!  I break A.Lot.Of.Things. on a regular basis.  Since I was a kid I was "labelled"; irresponsible, careless, rough, bull in a china shop, klutz, clumsy...you get the picture.  However, my newest "label" comes from my Bestie, LeeAnn's husband, Jerry...are you ready for it?  Broche A Foin (said; brush-a-f-wan) it's French for; irresponsible, careless, rough, bull in a china shop, klutz, clumsy...you get the picture!  LOL!

Because there were sooooo many things I have broken, I decided to go with the most costly thing I have broken in recent years.  My dad's Polaris Ranger.  My dad's $16,200 Polaris Ranger.  I snapped the steering column right in half and APPARENTLY "they" (meaning the Polaris mechanics) had NEVER seen this happen in ALL THEIR YEARS of service.  Humph.  I guess that's why it cost $1400 to get it fixed...ouch!

Sorry Dad for making some kinda "new record" for the gang over at Polaris.

Thanks Dad for once again bailing me out of a tough financial situation!

Ok, so let me give you a little background on the who, when, where and HOW of this "situation".  Every year we travel to Ontario to visit family & friends, it's one of my favorite vay-K's of the year.  For 10 days or so, we head way up North to my dad's camp...DA CAMP!  It's beautiful serenity out there and I cherish every moment I have had the pleasure of spending up there.  It's BEAUTIFUL!  It's remote...
View of the lake from the cabins

Main Cabin, Guest Cabin & Storage Sheds

When my dad first build DA CAMP he had to hire float planes to fly in all the materials.  I vaguely remember the few trips we made up their via air because the bulk of my memories of how we got to the camp involves roads, boats and ATV's.  Throughout most of my childhood, we would drive 3 hours to a parking lot in the middle of the forest and then boat across a very large lake to a tiny little river.  I would get out of the boat and make my way through a small shoreline path while my dad wadded through the tiny river, pulling the boat and all our $hit.  I would then climb back into the boat and we'd cross another large lake until we reached our home sweet come for the weekend.  It was a long haul...for dad...I always had a BLAST!  It was like a new adventure each time and you never knew what would go wrong happen...LOL!

For the last couple decades the trip into the camp involves no boating and a lot of ATV'ing.  Can you say FUN??  While the trip in is a lot less daunting it never comes without that wonderful feeling of the unknown adventure that lies ahead or the things that will may go wrong.  Arrive at the "Broken Steering Column on the Ranger that has NEVER been done before" part of the story...

My two Bestie's LeeAnn & Karen and I decided to take the Ranger out for a "ride" and while the trails in and out of the camp are well build and maintained, you must appreciate that they were cut, dug, blasted and "groomed" by my dad, his Bestie's and the other cottagers on the lake.  Read: It's in the middle of the bush and it's full of pot holes, huge hills (up n' down) and tree stumps.  Damn Tree Stumps.

Anywho, the ranger comfortably seated the 3 of us and off we went on our journey to the road to meet a "latecomer".  As I was safely rounding a corner and NOT at all driving overly fast, a tree stump must have ran into us I must have ran into a tree stump and I hit the gas when I should have hit the BRAKE!  The next thing I knew I went flying off and Karen came flying off behind me but LeeAnn somehow managed not to go flying!?!  I can remember feeling horrified as I got to my feet and thought I had killed my friends.  However, after dramatically overreacting I calmly assessed their well being and  it was established that no one was seriously injured, we climbed back into the Ranger (which was still running by the way) and assumed we could just drive off.  WRONG!  While the beast was running as if everything was honky-dory, it wouldn't shift gears and oddly, the steering wheel just turned around and around and around.  I knew something was wrong but I had no idea just HOW WRONG!

Long story long, we walked through the forest, back to the camp.  Me crying like a baby (it's amazing how even in your 30's, the potential wrath of your mother can still bring you to tears...LMAO!), Karen hobbling (apparently her injuries were late to set in) and LeeAnn totally freaking us out about potential bear attacks and quizzing us on the "what to do and NOT to do if attacked" after seeing a few fresh paw prints on the path back to Da Camp.  It was horrible.  It was memorable.

The next day, the "boys" went back to the scene of the accident and retrieved the broken Ranger, using some very innovative means I might add, good job boys, sorry it took most of the morning to haul it back!

Two ATV's & a Boat Trailer Later the Broken Ranger Arrives Back at Da Camp!

Daddy Dave, My Daddy & Jerry

In case you are wondering, this is what a broken steering column on a Polaris Ranger looks like...

On the bright side of things (I'm a glass 1/2 full kinda gal), never say something is impossible Polaris, especially if you are a Broche A Foin!!

F.A.T. Friday! My weight losses & weight gains in pictures...

Welcome to my weekly edition of F.A.T. Friday.  No, not FAT as in F-A-T but as in ForgingAhead Together to get/stay healthy!!

Last Week's Suggested Topic:  Got a picture you wanna share?  At your healthiest?  At your not-so-healthiest?  A favorite meal?  Better yet...got a video?  Come on and share!

As I have mentioned on more than one occasion, I have struggled with my weight all my life. All. My. Life.  I have NEVER been small.  Not. Ever.

I have had some "downs" but mostly "ups".  In fact, there have been so few "downs" that I figured the best way to "discuss" this was to go visual...with pictures.  However, I ran into a couple snags.  The first being that I have "misplaced" all my photos which, by the way, were super-organized from my birth to present day...bummer! (I know they are SOMEWHERE in my hoarder of a house & I will eventually find them but not having them didn't make this post very easy...LOL!)  The second, was that I had to use pictures from my scrapbooks (with the exception of a couple) and well, it's obvious I picked the most flattering ones to put in my albums and not many full-body-shots!  So, it's not quite the post I had hoped it would be (meaning; more honest & real...LOL!) but you'll get the idea, I'm sure.

Come On...let's take a walk back through time of my weight losses and gains:

I came into this world "chubby" BUT what baby doesn't right?

I am about 6 or 7 years old here and at my "smallest" during grade school. (I was always the largest girl in my grade regardless of my "size")

This is me in Grade 6 having put on a considerable amount of weight since Grade 2!

One of my longest "down" times was from age 13-15 years old...

Age 13 yrs old

Age 14 yrs old

After that it was "up"...
Age 16 yrs old
"UP"...
18 yrs old
 WAY "UP"...
23 yrs old
To My Heaviest (290 lbs)!!
26 years old
(290 lbs)

The next "down" period in my life was from 27 yrs old to 31 years old.  I sought out extreme medical intervention to get my weight under control.  Read:  I had my stomach stapled in 2001. (I plan to post more about this soon!)  This is me at my smallest since I can remember at 180 pounds...

Age 27 yrs old
(180 lbs)
I slowly started to put the weight back on 2 years later...
Age 29 yrs old

By the time I was married in 2004 I was back up to 230 pounds...

30 yrs old
(230 lbs)
The climb "up" continued for 4 more years...
31 years old

32 years old
33 years old
34 yrs old
Daddy Dave and I were ready to start a family by this time but I wanted to lose some weight before that happened.  And so, I started the Dr. B diet in Feb 2007 and lost 80 pounds...

35 years old
(190 lbs)
Once again, I started to climb "up" the weight ladder and in less than two years I had gained back almost all that weight. *sigh*  This is me 2 months pregnant with Ave & Bryce...
36 years old
(250 lbs)
I did manage to take a "few" pounds off after Ave & Bryce were born.  This is me in the Spring of 2010...
36 1/2 years old
And then one year later (summer 2011) I put it all back on and MORE...
37 years old
And here I was at the start of my whole F.A.T. commitment to living a healthier lifestyle back in April of this year...

38 years old
(282 lbs)

And Where Am I Today??  You'll have to check back next week to find out...I am having a full pictorial post to "show off" my success & let you know what dress I wore to my friend's wedding this weekend!!!

How successful have I been?  Well, lets get to this weeks weight stats...

Welcome To Our Friendly Neighborhood Grocery Store...

Linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop...come join in on the FUN!

Assignment: What do your kids have that you always wanted when you were a kid?

A Grocery Store. Stocked with food.  Pretend food. Oh! And a grocery cart.  That is what I always wanted when I was a kid.

However, I had to make do with setting up my own Grocery Store (because W-A-Y back then, kids actually had to use their own imagination for "such things") by taking a variety of food out of the cupboards and placing them all around the basement rec room.  I would use one of the tables as the "checkout"  complete with one of my parents adding machines for the cash register.  I'd have plastic grocery bags to "pack up" all my pretend customer purchases and I'd make "change" with monopoly money.  It was quite difficult to play "two roles"...you know that of the customer AND the customer service representative but I made it work.  I had hours and hours of fun, it was a blast!

I swore that when I had kids they would be fully equipped with a Grocery Store of their own so, you can imagine my delight when I found this 2 years before we even had kids (and on sale for $19.99):

Then I started accumulating the "inventory":

Despite Daddy Dave's protest that, "They are WAY to young!", Santa brought them it for Christmas last year (they were almost 2 yrs old).  Come on and take a "tour" of our friendly neighborhood SuperMarket...

The Meat/Dairy Department

The Bakery

The Fresh Produce Section

The Non-Perishables "Aisle"

Checkout & Carts

While I have to give myself some credit on the super-fan-tabulous set up I arranged, I sadly have to admit that they tend to enjoy tipping it over and scattering the "inventory" everywhere, rather than playing "store". *sigh*

I hate to admit it when I am wrong have no problem admitting when I am wrong...Daddy Dave was right!  They ARE too young to grasp the concept of "shopping & buying" and MORE IMPORTANTLY, how to "properly" run their own grocery store! *sigh*  They will and they WILL LOVE IT!!  (Or at least I hope so.  LOL!)

Stuffed Shells...My Mom Can Cook!

Linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop...you should too!

Assignment: Last week we talking about mom's WORST homemade meals. This week describe a meal your Mom cooked that you LOVED eating growing up.

My mom can cook.  Yes. She. Can.  I refuse to eat Pate Chinois but not because she can't cook it but because she made me smell my feet at the dinner table.  Confused?  You must have missed last weeks post.  LMAO!

Not MY MOM'S but you get the picture!
This week, I really struggled with picking only one meal that my mom use to cook that I LOVED to eat.  After much contemplation and analyzing all the "pros n' cons"...I decided on stuffed shells.  YUM!  YUM!

I picked this particular meal for two specific reasons.  The first being that it is so flippin' delicious that my mouth is currently watering just thinking about them.  The second reason is because some of my fondest memories as a child are in the kitchen with my mom...cooking.  This particular meal required a lot of my help, which made me feel really  "important" because there was a lot of shredded cheese required for this super-yum-ilicious meal.  Are you confused again?  LOL!  Allow me to explain...

Long before the convenience of being able to purchase shredded cheese in a bag, my main responsibility was to grate (shred) a pound of mozzarella and a pound of cheddar cheese...by hand.  At the time I thought, "WoW!  My mom must REALLY TRUST me to allow me to have such an important job (shredded cheese is over 50% of the recipe)!"  However, now I know that it was the worst job of the recipe but back then I felt like a real sous chef.  LOL!

Chances are, if you are coming to my house for a dinner party I'll be serving you Chicken Parmesan, Authentic Cesar Salad and Stuffed Shells.  For dessert, Divito's Coffee Cake.  Chances are, you will ask for the recipe so here it is...enjoy!

Mom's Stuffed Shells

1 box of jumbo shells (cooked as per instructions and cooled)
1/2 bag of shredded mozza
1/2 bag of shredded cheddar
(or if you want the FULL EXPERIENCE, shred it yourself.  Ya, I didn't think so!  LOL)
1 250g container of cottage cheese
1 egg
Crushed Garlic
Salt n' Pepper
Italian Bread Crumbs (to form)
1 large jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce (or better yet, homemade)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix Cheeses, egg, garlic, salt n' pepper and enough bread crumbs so the mixture is not too mushie.  Stuff each cooked shell with a tablespoon (or so) of cheese mixture.  Grease a 9x13 baking dish and pour 1/2 of the spaghetti sauce on the bottom and place stuffed shells on top.  Pour the remaining spaghetti sauce over top.  Cover with foil and bake for 45 mins to 1 hour.  YUMMMY!

Songs That Make US Sing Saturday! The Olympics...

I'm not much of an Olympics fan but I do like the idea of many of the worlds countries coming together for a scandal or two little friendly competition...

Anywho, with the Olympics coming to an end next week I thought it only right to play a little diddy in honor of it all.

(Ok, and to have a giggle at the fact that the band forgot to tell one of it's members to wear light colored jeans and a black leather jacket to the video shoot!)

F.A.T. Friday! I'm B-A-A-A-C-K...

I am sure this goes without saying but I have been “absent” from my weekly installment of F.A.T. (Forging  Ahead Together) Friday due to an extra long Vay-K.  As you may remember, I had set forward with a solid plan of action to stay committed to my Healthy Lifestyle but you know what they say about the best laid plans…

Needless to say, I did not stay on track.  I tried not to overindulge but I had my moments of weakness (Ok, more than a few moments) BUT, I am in the full swing of things and back on track!  I have to admit that I was a little frightened to head back to Dr. B. because I was positive I would tip the scales with at least a 5 pound gain, if not more.  I am happy to report that I only gained 2.8 pounds and have since taken off 2.2 of those pounds.  I guess if you figure that I had actually indented to lose 10 pounds, I really shouldn’t be “happy” and I’m not…I am however relived that I didn’t set myself back more than a week on my weight loss journey.

I've been thinking.  Oh! Oh!  I travel quite a bit and I have come to realization that being “off” program 2-3 times a year may be a strategy that helps me in the long run.    Hear me out…
If I “allow” myself the freedom to indulge during Vay-K’s I may not feel like I am “missing out” on life’s eating & drinking pleasures.  The more I “allow” myself this freedom the less I may take advantage of it and be a such a glutton.    Having these Vay-K indiscretions  may just help keep me focused on my day to day commitment to healthy living and have LESS OMG! moments.

See?  Doesn’t that make sense?  Ya, I’m not sure either but that’s the best I got.  LOL!

And Finally...this weeks weight stats:

Week #7 (on program)- Wednesday August 8, 2012
Start Weight: 282 pounds

Goal Weight: 150 pounds

Last Week's Weight (June 20th): 248.2 pounds

Current Weight: 248.8

Weight Lost this Week: + 0.6 pounds
Total Lost to Date: 33.2 pounds

Next Week’s Suggested Topic:  Got a picture you wanna share?  At your healthiest?  At your not-so-healthiest?  A favorite meal?  Better yet...got a video?  Come on and share!

Family Dinner, Smelly Feet & Pate Chinois. Oh, the memories...

Linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop...you should too!

Assignment: What’s for dinner Mom? Describe a meal your Mom cooked that you dreaded eating growing up.

My mom is a good cook. Correction, she is a GREAT cook.  There were not many meals that I "dreaded".  In fact, there is only ONE meal that I "dreaded" and if truth be told, it was actually one of my favorite meals until...she made me smell my feet.  What?!?!  Yup!  She made me smell my feet at the dinner table during this particular "feast" (It was borderline abusive if you ask me...LMAO!) and that was the end of my love for Pate Chinois or  Shepard's Pie as you may know it.

I should disclose the fact that I have stinky feet.  Always have.  Always will.  I was born with them, of this, I am positive.  Not just smelly feet, down right stinky!  (I use to be ashamed but as you see, I have no shame about this now, as an adult.)   I do my best to prevent others from becoming nauseous being uncomfortable due to my stinky-feet-problem.  Just ask my old coworkers from The University of Calgary.  It was almost a daily ritual for me to pull out the Dr Scholls foot spray to avoid the odor from becoming unbearable in our tiny office that I shared with 4 other people.  I may have stinky feet but at least I am considerate about it.

Anywho, back to the family dinner that ruined my appetite for Pate Chinois...forever!  Allow me to bring you back through time to that fateful night...

Me- What's for dinner mom?
Mom- Pate chinois.
Me- Woo Hoo! (happy dance around the kitchen)

***
Fast Forward 1/2 hour later.  My mom, dad and I are all sitting around the table enjoying the first few mouthfuls of delicious Pate Chinois...

Mom- Something smells...what is that smell?
Me- I don't smell anything. (I forgot to mention that I am often oblivious to my own foot odor)
Dad- Me either. (Apparently, so is my father.)
Mom- It smells like feet!  Ginger do your feet smell?
Me- No.
Mom- It REALLY smells.  Are you sure it's not your feet?
Me- Pretty sure. (I am enjoying my dinner way too much to truly "investigate" her complaint)
Mom- It is totally overwhelming.  It smells gross (I should note that my mother is "scent sensitive" to the core!)  I am sure it's your feet Ginger.  Smell your feet!
Me- Ughh.  Gross mom...no.
Mom- You need to be more aware of your body odor Ginger.  Smell your feet!
Me- No...please don't make me. (Ok, this sounds more pathetic than it really was!)
Mom- Smell your feet now! (She meant business)

I put my fork down, push my chair out from the table and bend over and took a big whiff (Honestly, I didn't think it was my feet so I was being a bit over dramatic about having to smell my feet at the dinner table.)  WELL, I instantly gagged and ran to the bathroom only to have what little of my Pate Chinois I had enjoyed come right back out.  I returned to the table and announced, "Yup!  It was definitely my feet."

Needless to say, supper was over and I have never attempted to consume Pate Chinois again.  E-V-E-R!

Got something embarrassing interesting you'd like to share??  Go Link Up...
