The Next Donny & Marie Osmond?? I don't think so...

Not because my kids can't sing (they are naturally talented...LOL!).  Because they can't get along when they sing!  LOL!

I LOVE HALLOWEEN and I am pretty sure my kids are starting to love it as much as me.  Especially singing my all time favorite Halloween Song, 5 Little Pumpkins.

We've got the book and while it has always been Daddy Dave's primary responsibility to read bedtime stories, when it comes to this book, Mama likes to SING IT, not read it and the kids love it.  So much so, that they have memorized the words and now sing it themselves.  They MUST take turns, as you will see in the following videos, as they do not like the other one to have the "spotlight".  LMAO!

Presenting Marie Osmond Ave Bowes singing 5 Little Pumpkins or I guess I should say, 2 little pumpkins as she forgot to "countdown"...

Presenting Donny Osmond Bryce Bowes singing a partial rendition of 5 little pumpkins (because Daddy's iphone died before we could capture the whole performance...bummer!)  He spilled his milk and it was kinda distracting for him...LOL!

Happy Day Before Halloween Everyone!!

Rapunzel & Russell (a.k.a. Scout "Guy"). Halloween 2012...

I am linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop.

Assignment: Halloween is coming!  Show us what your kids will be wearing.

I love Halloween.  LOVE IT!  When I was a kid, I starting planning next year's costume and yard decorations on Nov 1st.   I once carved 5 pumpkins and sat them on our front gate (ok, it was a fence) and sang the song "5 Little Pumpkins" over and over and over again on a tape and played it on Halloween night. I also cut the head off one of my cabbage patch dolls with my dads axe over a wood stump.  Then I stuffed some of his old clothes to look like a real man and threw fake blood all over the front lawn.  Not on the same year as the 5 Little Pumpkins "set-up".  Just to be clear becuase that would be "creepy".  THAT  is how much I LOVE Halloween!!

I am pretty sure I am setting my kids up to loving Halloween just as much as me and I couldn't be more proud!  Of them, not me.  Ok, me too!  LMAO!

Anywho, for the last two Halloween's I got to pick the kids costumes because they were too young to care pick one themselves.

Their first Halloween, they were the Princess & The Dragon...

Last Halloween, they were Raggedy Ann & Andy...do you see the whole "twin" thing happening?!?!?!

This year however, they got a mind of their own had an opinion on what they wanted to dress up as.  (Actually, Ave did.  Bryce couldn't articulate what he wanted to be so I picked his costume for him.)

Ave has watched Tangled like a 100 times, I swear.  Maybe more.  She loves Rapunzel and THAT is who she wanted to dress up as.   And like any Fairy Godmother great mom, her wish was my command....

Bryce, well, like I mentioned, he didn't really have a thought on who he wanted to be so I went with Russell from the movie "UP", for TWO reasons.  The first is when I saw this movie I immediately pictured Bryce being that "adorable, well-meaning pain in the a$$"...LOL!  The second reason?  Daddy Dave needed a costume and so he's going to be the Old Guy from "UP" because he's cranky all lovey-dovey like that...LMAO!  It's gonna be a total hoot!  I will post pictures next week for your amusement enjoyment!

Only when I told Bryce who he was going to be (Russell, the Boy Scout) and who Daddy was gonna be (The Cranky Old Guy) he had a total fit. Like, lost his mind kinda fit!  After I calmed him down I asked him what the problem was.  He responded, "I'm not Russell.  I'm gonna be Scout Guy!"  (You know 'cuz daddy is the old "guy" so he's gotta be the scout "guy"...too funny!) So, were going with that!

So there you have it...My Little Rapunzel & Russell from the movie "UP" (a.k.a. Scout Guy)!!!
She looks totally thrilled and he does not!  I guess next year he'll know better to pick his own costume...lesson learned...LOL!

I just learned something about myself that I don't really like. Or rather, respect...

Wanna know what it is?  I don't know how to define it actually.  If I HAD to "label" it, I think you might be able to call me a coward.

What?  Yup!  I can't think of another word to describe it.  Allow me to elaborate...

I lost a really good friend in April of this year.  It was a tragic loss.  Sudden.  Unexpected.  Devastating.  I was sad...angry...at a loss but I mourned her death and move on.  Or so I thought.  So. I. Thought.

I have done nothing more than bury it deep within some crevice of my mind and soul only allowing it to escape every so often.  Mostly when I have enjoyed a "beverage" or two or worse, when I interact with the people who also knew and loved my friend.  I have unconsciously, I think, avoided them the last few months.  Not because I don't care and love them but because when I am around them my heart aches because I remember my friend and it hurts...badly.  THIS, is what I have learned about myself that I do not like very much!  I am a coward.  Someone who chooses to avoid what is "real" to avoid what is "real". It's pathetic and sad all at the same time.

I read on facebook how so many of my friends, and friends of Rhonda, are having such a difficult time dealing with her passing and I have, honestly thought "WoW!  It's been 6 months people...time too..."  I know...how insensitive but that was how I felt.  Not in a mean way, just in a practical sense.  But you know, these past few weeks have been tough for me.  Really.  Really. Tough.  It could be a simple conversation with someone who did not even know my friend and I bust out into tears.  My daughter, God bless her soul, will, "outta the blue" look up to the sky and blow Rhonda a kiss and it take everything I got not to fall to my knees and sob. But more shamefully, it's the "posts" or conversations I read or have with her family and mutual friends that I avoid the most.  Probably because they are the most "real".  It's often through these interactions that my eyes weal up and my head starts to pound and my heart starts to ache and quite frankly...I don't like that feeling and so, I avoid it.  Which is wrong and disgraceful, I know.  Still, I do it and I really don't like this about myself.  Not. One. Bit.

And so, here I sit wondering what to do about "that".  You know, the whole "avoiding" thing...I guess I just gotta work on "that".  I have to allow myself to feel sad from time to time.  I have to be "ok" with remembering my friend and keeping her spirit alive through conversations and interactions.  After all, avoiding what IS real and the REAL feelings that come from that is not therapuetic nor healthy.  Today is a new day and

Songs That Make US Sing Saturday! Duck Dynasty...

I haven't heard Daddy Dave laugh out loud like he did this week in a long...long...L-O-N-G time!

What was so funny???

So, what made the hubby bust a gut?  Duck Dynasty...enuff said for those of you who are familiar with this totally staged reality TV show!!

I, personally, find the show to be ridiculous.  Ridiculously...FUNNY!

Dave almost lost it when Si went on to recite some lyrics from THIS song...Daddy Dave couldn't believe that some old guy like Si would even KNOW this song, let alone sing it.

Ya, me neither.  But I guess that's what totally fake spontaneous TV is all about! LOL!

Here's a little "taste" of Si just in case you've never heard of Duck Dynasty!!

Do you ever poke your kids awake?

I mean, I can't be the only insane concerned mother out there that regularly occasionally pokes their kids awake when they go to do that "final" night check before laying their own head comfortably down on the pillow for a restful night sleep.  Right?  RIGHT?!?!

I know many parents choose not to use monitors after a year and some even refrain from using them at all.  I'm was and still  am, so NOT that parent...

You see, I was THAT mom that spent way too much money on the Angelcare baby monitor systems.  You know the one that sets off an alarm if the baby stops breathing or moving?  The one the sets off another alarm if it gets too cold or too hot because it also monitors room temperature?  Ya!  THAT mother.  I also, shamefully (ok, not really but I think I should pretend to be in light of the discussion at hand) used those monitors until Ave & Bryce were almost two years old.  I was forced to stop using them because it just became way too stressful having the "not moving/breathing" alarm go off continuously because they had the audacity to move out of range of the sensor pad located under their mattress.  Kids...so inconsiderate sometimes dontcha think?  LOL!

I made the transition to a two-way video monitor system just before their 2nd Birthday.  You know the one that you can carry around like an iphone and you can switch back and forth from one kid to another?  The one that lets you listen in on them AND actually talk to them through a built in speaker in the camera in their room?  Ya!  THAT one.  Sweet?  You bet (if you are THAT mom)!

The transition from alarms to silence was not an easy one for me.  I liked the comfort that my Angelcare monitors gave me.  I didn't need to "see" them or even "hear" them because I knew that if there was a problem a big 'ole alarm would sound.  So to go from that to "just" being able to see them and talk to them left me a flippin' nervous wreck feeling uncomfortable.  It's been almost a year since I got those video monitors and I've adjusted as well as can be expected.  I do love the fact that I don't have to go running up the stairs and become totally exhausted and winded in the process, to tell them to go to bed, rather, I just have to press a button and yell give them a gentle reminder that it's "sleepy time" and that they had better not make me come upstairs.

However, my heart does skip a beat when they sleep 10 minutes past their usual wake-up times in the morning and/or at nap time and I admit, I poke them awake from time to time just to put my mind at ease.  Poor Bryce gets poked more than Ave as she snores like a drunken sailor and Bryce sleeps so soundly I think YOU'D be tempted to poke him awake too.  LMAO!

I've always had a wild imagination and it does sometimes interfere with the way in which I "operate" in the world.  I try to consciously not live in the "What If's" mind frame but when it comes to my kids, I've got a little more work to do.  I know there is a name for this and a medication to help but I figure I've lived with my many neurotic tendencies for so long, why stop the party now?

If I am still poking them awake when they are teenagers, I'll seek some professional help...maybe.

Sippy Cups That DO NOT LEAK! Heck ya! Mama Loves...

I have been so busy lovin' things that I haven't had the chance to hook up with Julia over at Pontifications of a Twin Mom for her Mama Loves series but I'm back!

And I am lovin'....LOVIN' the ONLY sippy cups (well, they're more like bottles for older kids) that DO NOT leak.  Not even a drop.  Actually, Daddy Dave is loving it even more than mama this week because the STAINS ON THE CARPET are few and far between these days.

Wanna Know The Name of These MAGIC...NO SPILL CUPS?  Tummy Tickler Tot Character Apple Juice Bottles!

Ya sure, they only hold 4 ozs but I would fill up a 1 oz cup a million times over if it meant no stains on my carpets.  These are the cups that saved my marriage rugs!!

Watcha Ya Lovin' These Days??

That would be BLACK EYED PEAS!!!

Featuring TWO of my all time "If I Could Have Married a Celebrity" I so would have...

F.A.T. Friday! Where have I been? Hmmmm....

Welcome to my weekly (well, not recently...my bad) edition of F.A.T. Friday.  No, not FAT as in F-A-T but as in Forging Ahead Together to get/stay healthy!!

Where oh where have my F.A.T Friday posts been?  What have I been up too?  Well, I have been a very naughty girl.  I have not been committed to forging ahead together to a healthy lifestyle.  Nope.  Not.At.All.

But that was then and this is now.  I have pulled up my big girl panties...literally...and have returned to the one place I know works for me...the Dr. B. clinic.  After almost 5 weeks, I hung my head in shame, actually more is disappointment for my lack of dedication to eating properly, stepped on the scale and took it like "man".

I am up a whopping 5.6 pounds and while I have enjoyed the life of eating pretty much what I want and loving my red wine, it's so wasn't  worth the set back.  I leave for Florida in just over two months and my goal is to get down another 30 pounds.  Shopping in the States is so much fun and cheap!  I want to be able to get a new wardrobe and in order to be able to do that I must stay focused!

So...I am back...again!  Here's to keeping on track and focused...

Without further ado, here are this weeks weigh in stats:

Week #12 (on program)- Wednesday October 10, 2012

Start Weight: 282 pounds

Goal Weight: 150 pounds

Last Week's Weight: 238.4 pounds

Current Weight: 244.0 pounds

Weight Lost this Week: + 5.6 pounds

Total Lost to Date: 38 pounds

Crazy Hair Pumpkin...Go On Give It a "Pull"!!

Linking up with Mama Kat once again for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop.

Assignment- Pumpkins.  Anything with pumpkins!

I have been a little absent here in Bloggy World and I do have a legitimate excuse reason.  I recently took on the position of Social Coordinator for the annual Halloween & Christmas parties with our Twins, Triplets and More Association in Calgary.

I LOVE parties but more than that, I LOVE TO PLAN PARTIES.  It's like a drug I can never get enough of.  Seriously, I am addicted.  And what does a party-planning-addict do when they agreed to only throw 2 parties a year in their home as per their "verbal marriage contract" stipulates because Daddy Dave is a TOTAL party pooper?  They wait TWO YEARS for the position to become available and then pounce on it like a cat on catnip. Ya,  I know.  I've got no shame.  LOL!

Anywho, the Halloween Party is planned, organized and awaiting the arrival of Saturday October 27th.  What's the theme?  I am SOOO happy you asked.  It's a GRAND Spooktacular Halloween Carnival!!

In addition to bounce houses, kiddie roller coasters, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, swamp water punch and a sweet little Pumpkin Patch for younger kids, I have organized 9 carnival games that kids of all ages will enjoy playing.  This brings me to my "Pumpkin" post...this is one of the games called "Pumpkin Pull".  The kids pull out a strand of "hair" from the pumpkin and what color is at the end of the sucker determines what prize they will get.

Wanna Make a Crazy Hair Pumpkin Pull Game for Your Halloween Party...It's As Easy As 1, 2, 3!
#1- Drill Holes All Around Top Half of a Foam Pumpkin
#2- Stick Suckers In With Color Coded Tips (for prizes)
#3- Ta-Da!!  The Crazy Hair Pumpkin Pull Game
*for larger parties you may want 2 or 3 of these "guys"*

Daddy Dave may be a huge party pooper opposed to having parties at his house but he was quick to help me get things prepared for the big TTMAC Halloween Carnival.  And I couldn't be more grateful as we have 205 kids attending and over 175 adults...it's gonna be CRAZY FUN!!!

*In the event YOU love to plan parties as much as I do...I will be sure to post all the details of the party (including pics)!!
