Just Another Mom of Twins

I LOVED the Spin Doctors when I was 19.  It seems like a lifetime ago.  Yet, when I listen to this song it feels just like yesterday when my two best buddies in the world told me to pack my bags because they were bringing somewhere for my Birthday!  We drove over 8 hours to see the SPIN DOCTORS in concert...can you say A-W-E-S-O-M-E?
(The concert wasn't too shabby either!)

Virtual Crafty Link-Up- Ave & Bryce's 1st Birthday

I am linking up with Marcia Over at 123 Blog for her super cool monthly Virtual Crafty Link Up!

(You should go over and take a peek at some of the "creative creations" AND if you're really feeling like a "sharer" today...post your Craftiness for the world to scraplift!)

This is the 2 page 1st Birthday layout I did for Ave's scrapbook. YES!  I totally played on the "twin thing" and made it a Mickie & Minnie Mouse themed party.  (This year's is Raggedy Ann & Andy. Hey, I gotta get it all in before they start to decide costumes, themes, clothes, etc. for themselves. LOL!)

On the top left, I put one of the invitations and you can pull it out of the book to have a "peek".  These were the handmade invitations I made...I used a printable template but I still had to cut, paste and "craft"! LOL

Ok, I know the following pictures are not "crafty" but I couldn't help but share...

Bryce's Matching "Mickey" Cake

We served sandwiches cut like "Mickey & Minnie Mouse"
(Yes, that is blue and pink bread...cool eh?)

I even made little tiny "mice" out of strawberries!

Happy Crafting Everyone!

Daddy Dave Dishes on Donnerstag! (That's German for Thursday) Part III

Welcome or Welcome Back!!
Daddy Dave has completed his five part series to help "kick-off" his weekly Thursday contribution to my blog!    From what I can gather, many of you are enjoying the "get to know him better" questions and this week he's playing a game!  This or That...it's quite simple actually.  He was given a list of 2 words and he had to pick one or the other, whichever he "preferred more".  The catch?  He shouldn't think too long and was asked to write which of the two words he was "drawn" to most.

As you will see, it wasn't as "simple" as I thought it would be!  Once again, my "input" is in the (coloured text)!

Before Daddy Dave gets started on this weeks instalment, if you happened to miss the last two weeks, here are the direct links to those posts:

Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday Link-Up!

Some Times When You Believe....
Dreams Really Do Come True!

My dream was to meet a wonderful man (Daddy Dave), get married and
 have children (Bryce & Ave)
I BELIEVED & MY DREAM CAME TRUE...I Hope All Yours Do Too!!!
~xoxoxoxoxo~

I would love to see YOUR Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday Post!!

 Come On Link-Up!!

He Got My Hands...He Got My Feet BUT He Didn't Get My Toes!! (Thank Gawd!)

There was a time, shortly after the kids were born were that I went through a depression. I was convinced that there had been some major mix-up at the fertility clinic and someone else's eggs were fertilized by my husbands sperm. Don’t laugh. It happens…doesn’t it?

Why did I think this you ask? Because EVERYONE kept "ooohhhing & aaaahing" over how much they both looked like Daddy Dave. With the exception of my mom, god bless her soul.  She insisted that Ave looked JUST LIKE ME when I was a baby. I was so terrified that not one single gene of mine was coursing through their little bodies that I pinned my baby picture to the kitchen cupboard to convince remind myself that Ave did, in fact, look like me. Kinda.

Fast forward 20 months...

Saving Money...Killing the Enviroment!

It's Wal Mart Anniversary Days around these parts.  My favorite time to shop. (Ok, every "time" is my favorite "time to shop...guilty!) But during the Wal Mart Anniversary sales, that's when I really "stock-up" on household items for the year.  You can barely beat their already low prices but for these 3 weeks in September I feel like I'm almost "stealing", the bargains are so GREAT! (Not as "great" as those extreme couponer's but I also don't have to spend 40 hours getting ready to shop AND I only buy what I really want AND the brands I like...I'm just saying.)

Anywho, this is when I buy our supply of diapers for the year.  Yes, it's a lot of money to "dish-out" at once but in the long run it has saves us BIG TIME!

This time around, I only purchased about 7 months worth of diapers because I am praying hoping that Ave & Bryce will embrace the wonderful opportunity of using the toilet to relieve themselves in 7 short months.  It's a gamble because as I have read on so many mommy blogs, you just never know when the time will be "right" and/or when they will be "ready".  I say 7 months is a good guesstimate...

Spiritual Sunday- Family

I was very fortunate to grow up in a loving family environment filled with the richness of wisdom, guidance, truth, fairness, respect and above all L-O-V-E.

One of the three books I bought to help guide me through my Spiritual Sunday posts is entitled "List to Live By for Smart Living" compiled by Alice Gray, Steve Stephens & John Van Diest.  I would like to share with you one of these lists...Foundation Builders for Your Family, written by Susan Alexander Yates.  I took a "walk down memory lane" of my own childhood and how my parents followed these simple but profound basic principles in order to build our strong family foundation, something I will strive to do with my own own family...

Just Another Mom of Twins

I can remember listening to this song in my early 20’s and thinking...
Don't Let This Be The Song of Your Life in 20 Years!!

Remember the Berry-Eating Scene in the Movie "Blue Lagoon"?

You know the one I'm talking about right?!?!   I sure hope I am no aging myself too much by even mentioning this movie but if you are somewhere in your 30's or 40's there is NO WAY you don't know this movie.  Blue Lagoon not only starred the CUTEST boy E-V-E-R, Christopher Atkins but one of the most beautiful girls in Hollywood...Brooke Shields. For those of you who haven't seen this move here is a quick synopsis:

2 children and a drunk get stranded on an island after thier vessel goes down in the middle of the ocean.  The drunken cook moves on to greener pastures and the 2 kids are left to fend for themselves and survive.  Years go by and they enter puberty together and well, they "experience" their firsts together and a baby is born.  After awhile the "FAM" decides they want to try to get off the island but they end of drifting at sea for days and rather than die from the elements, they eat "never wake up" berries.  They are rescued, fast asleep... not dead, making the "never wake up berries" a hoax.

Ok, so that brings me to my "Blue Lagoon" moment on Wednesday as the kids and I were have a blast playing outside....

Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday Link-Up!

I just worked our bi-annual Twins, Triples & More Association of Calgary's clothing, toys and MORE sale!  It was grueling...almost 24 hours over 2 days BUT it was so worth it!  I made $495 in personal sales which isn't too shabby when you break that down to an hourly wage.  More importantly, I got to meet so many other mom's and dad's of multiples!

I thought that this picture was appropriate given my weekend of "Sales"...LOL!

Ave & Bryce- 6 months old
P.S.  Sorry, they are not REALLY "For Sale"...LOL!

I would LOVE to see your Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday post...Come On...Link-Up!
(If you don't have a code of your own, go ahead and grab mine!)

OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, Casey Anthony...

I don't watch news...nope, I don't.   You can think of me what you will but I have a very good reason as to why I chose not to "tune the tube" to "news"...I strongly believe that only 25% (if that) is accurate, truthful and/or educational.

Do I feel like a total knob in social situations when people are discussing "current affairs"?  Sometimes.  Not often.  Why?  I like to believe that I "research" the information I feel is of importance in the world around me.  During my "research", I choose to seek out real people with real life experiences in regards to any given "hot topic".  I don't watch CNN, CTV, CBS, BBC, GOOGLE, MSN, FOX and I especially don't watch the Nancy Grace show!  For the record, that woman drives me bonkers!  Her voice is as "painful" as finger nails being dragged down a chalkboard.  Not to mention that she annoys me ALMOST as much as people who don't use napkins while eating...and that's a whole heck of a lot people.  (Another post, another day.)

I search for sites, blogs to be specific, that talk about any given topic on any given matter.  I feel way more engaged and informed when I read real people writing about real matters of interest.  Does this make me the person you should call if you want the latest update about the war or the plummeting stock market or the employment rate or debt ridden state of our economy....no.  But if you want to know how people are "feeling n' dealing" with these things...put me on speed dial.  Will it be a detailed account of what the "people in charge" want you to know...nope.  Will it be laden with facts and figures...nope.  It will however be "real" (at least by my own standards).

Anywho, to my point...I especially don't watch media-grabbing-headline-sensationalized-"type" stories.  I didn't watch one minute of the OJ Simpson trial.  Nor did I give one second of my life to the Michael Jackson's molestation fiasco and more recently, I would have no clue who Casey Anthony is except for the excessive coverage I saw as I surfed channels and the magazine headlines I glanced at while waiting in the grocery check-out line.

However, I did watch Dr. Phil's interview with Cindy and George Anthony and I must say...I feel like he was a little hard on Cindy.  Before everyone goes *crazy, wild* on me, please re-read above.  I didn't watch the Casey Anthony Circus Trial.  All I know is that a beautiful little girl, Caylee, went missing.  That her remains were found and then that her mother went on trial for her murder.  She was found Not Guilty and the world was up in arms.  Other than that, I really didn't/don't know any details. So, I can not make any reference to her innocence or guilt.  What I want to comment on is the interview Dr. Phil had with Casey Anthony's parents.  I love, L-O-V-E Dr. Phil's no nonsense, "tells it like it is" approach.  He holds people accountable and calls them "out".  And he didn't disappoint during his interview with the Anthony's BUT...

Recipe? What's That?

I don't bake because I don't like following a recipe.  I cook because you don't NEED a recipe.  You might not be able to "recreate" that delicious meal you just served BUT you didn't have to measure and "stress" either, so it's a "catch 22 situation" if you ask me.

I discovered you CAN bake without a recipe and not have a total disaster and failure as the final product. Impressed?  I sure was...

Spiritual Sunday- Firendship

If nothing else, I am honest.  I need some "inspiration" because spiritually, I am not grounded.  I am not lost but I am at a loss.  My Spiritual Sunday posts have become something that I look forward to writing.  It's the one day of the week that I feel like I can post something that my children can read years from now and feel closer to me and my thoughts about spirituality.

To gain some "inspiration" I stopped into a store in my hometown of Porcupine,ON, Harmony House.  It has been located in the mall for as long as I can remember.  I had never ventured into the store before because I had never felt the urge or need, until this summer.  I went in looking for a book that would provide me with the insight and words I wanted to express about religion...God...Life.  Who would have thought there would be so many books to chose from and I became extremely overwhelmed, extremely quickly.  I didn't leave empty handed, I picked up three pocket size books filled with short stories, poems, "lists", and words of wisdom.  The books I purchased are  not specifically about religion but more about how to live your life with integrity, something I always strive to do.

I started to read some of the contents from each book this week and I became so excited with all the "inspiration" coming to me.  I plan to use these books and the words inside them to guide me through my weekly Spiritual Sunday posts and I hope you will feel the excitement and inspiration as deeply as I do.

This week, in honor of my recent travels to visit friends afar and because of all my "real-life" and "bloggy world" friends that I have been blessed with...I leave you with this:

Friends Are Life's Gift of Love
Helen Steiner Rice- A Collection of Encouragement

If people like me didn't know people like you,
Life would lose its meaning and richness, too.
For the friends that we make are life's gifts of love,
And I think friends are sent right from heaven above.
And thinking of you somehow makes me feel
That God is love and He's very real.

I don't have pictures of my BLOGGY WORLD FRIENDS but you can "check them out" at their cyber-world homes listed on the left side of my page! :)

Mom & Tots Day!

Just a short and sweet post today as I am off to "work" the bi-annual Twins, Triplets & More Association of Calgary's "Garage" Sale.  I am now part of the sales team, which I am looking forward too because there is LOTSA money to be made by selling Ave & Bryce's toys & clothes but I am not looking forward to the TWO, 12 hour days ahead of me...Daddy's on shift!

Yesterday, Ave & Bryce welcomed 4 of their little "buddies" over for a playdate.  It was amazing to see how 1 month made such a difference in how well they play with others!  I will have to go and "revise" my Bit 'Bout Bryce as he no longer seems to care if people are in his house, playing with his "things" read, he isn't hanging off me crying and screaming bloody murder.  LOL!

Ave was so "smitten" with Kael (my girlfriend Lisa's little boy) that she leaned in and gave him a "kiss".  Needless to say, daddy Dave had his first "talk" with her about dating and something about buying a cow and getting milk for free?!?!?!  LMAO!

(From Left to Right)
Kael, Bryce, Hudson, Hannah, Ave & Lucas

Mommy Lisa- Kael & Hudson (we met at our twin prenatal classes)
Mommy Amanda- Hannah & Lucas (we met at work years ago)

While the kiddies did a great job at tearing apart the playrooms...I still
think Ave & Bryce hold the record! LOL!

 Happy Friday Everyone!!

Daddy Dave Dishes on Donnerstag (That's German for Thursday!)

Since I started this blog for the purpose of "journaling" for our kiddies...I thought it was only appropriate that Daddy gets in on the act too...don't you agree?  (I thought so...great minds DO think alike.)

Therefore, I am pleased to announce that Daddy Dave has reluctantly agreed to  embrace accept my blogging addiction dedication and make a weekly contribution on Donnerstag's...that's German for Thursday's.  (It's the only "D" word I could find that translated to a day of the week...LOL!)

To "kick-off" this NEW & EXCITING feature, he has completed a 5 part series of questions and games that I will be sharing over the next five weeks...on Donnerstag...to help get to know him better.  Are you as "pumped" as I am?!?!  Trust me, he will have you coming back every week for ONE of three reasons...

These Are A Few Of Their Favourite Things...

I just couldn't resist posting a few of Ave & Bryce's favourite things to do to keep themselves amused and occupied.

PLAYING SUPERHERO'S
Now that they are almost 20 months old, they are beginning to play "imagination" and one of their favorite things is playing SUPERHERO'S.  In actuality, it was Ave's "thing" but she quickly got her brother "hooked" by insisting he also put a "cape" on and run around with her...

COLOURING
They Love...L-O-V-E to colour!  It's an activity that I still have to watch closely because they haven't quite grasped the concept that crayons are for paper not for bellies....LOL!  The worst part of the colouring experience is having to put it away...screaming usually ensues and it take me a few days to work up the courage to bring it all out again.

TEARING APART THE PLAYROOM
I would bet my life savings (which isn't all that much but STILL...) that Ave & Bryce can tear apart a playroom in record breaking time...they've got to hold the Guinness World Record.  LOL!  They absolutely "explode" when given the opportunity to explore and play in their toy room.   It takes mommy a little while to clean up but they have started to learn and participate in the process of "tidying-up"!

NIGHTLY SCREENING OF IN THE NIGHT GARDEN
A nightly ritual around our house, right before supper and "book time" followed by bedtime is the viewing of "In The Night Garden".  I'm not quite sure what the kids love about this show but it is AMAZING how they grab their blankets, their drinks and "dolls" and get ready to watch this show every night.  It's one of the oddest shows on kids TV and the educational value would be "0" because they don't even really talk...think Teletubbies...but they LOVE it and I LOVE how it signifies the end of the day and beginning of our night routine.

(I'm Canadian Eh?!?!  My FavOurite ColOur is Orange...LOL!)

Spiritual Sunday- 9/11

Today marks the day that none of us want to recall but all of us need to remember.

Today is the day that I take a moment to think about all the people that lost their lives and the families left behind to pick up the pieces.

Today is the day that I say "Thank You" to all the men and women around the world that have given their lives fighting for my freedom.

Today is the day that I think about how grateful I am for all my blessings and "send" some of  my good "fortune" to those that may be in need.

Today is the day that I will hug Bryce 2 minutes longer, kiss Ave twice as much and tell my husband and family that I love them...over and over and over again!

Today is the day that I take a moment to remember and say a prayer...

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
-St. Francis of Assisi

REDRUM...REDRUM...REDRUM! (Picture Me Wiggling My Finger For FULL Effect!)

All Work And No Sleep Makes This Mommy One Cranky Lunatic Human Being!!!

Can YOU see the resemblance?!?!  LOL!!

Seriously, my son has decided that sleeping is no longer a requirement for his happy existence.  What he hasn't quite realized or figured out is that sleeping IS required for the happy existence of his mother and thereby required for HIS ONGOING  happy existence.  I have had a TOTAL of 12 hours of continuous sleep over the last 3 days...I am on the edge of insanity people!!

It all started during the last week of our holidays...

Are You A Good Wife? I'm NOT...

As a follow-up to my last week's A Good Mom post I thought I would share something "lighthearted" and humorous.   I remember reading this in an email a few years back and having such a chuckle at just HOW BAD OF A WIFE I AM!  LOL...

(I especially love  #15 because I sure do know "my place", it's right here in front of the computer making my bloggy buddies laugh!)
