10 Reasons I LOVE Fall...

I am linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop.

AssignmentFall is here! List your top 10 favorite things about this Fall season.

#10 Dryness.  No more sweaty underarm issues. Make that, no more sweat "issues" period.

#9 Hairy Legs. Shaving legs is now an optional activity in the shower.

#8  Close Toed Shoes.  I get to wear close toed shoes...I have a thing about my toes.

#7 Halloween.  It "hosts" my second favorite holiday...Halloween!

#6  Christmas (ya, I know that's in the winter but...) It brings me that much closer to my favorite holiday...Christmas!

#5 The pictures.  I LOVE the colors of Fall and it's my favorite time of year to take pictures.  Especially because in the Fall you won't see many bikinis and teeny-tiny sundresses, so I tend to "fit in" a bit better in group photos!

#4  Easy Yummy Crockpot meals.  Somehow, it just doesn't seem "right" to use the crockpot in the summer!?!?

#3 Fuzzy, Warm PJ's.  There is nothing more comforting than my fuzzy, warm PJ's & socks!

#2 Warm drinks.  Coffee (it just tastes better in the cooler months), hot chocolate, Spanish coffees, tea, hot toddy's, NeoCiran (ok, this one indicates sickness but it still is a warm drink!) etc.

#1  TV.  Shamefully (not really), the number one thing I love about the Fall is the lineup on TV.  Not only do my favorite shows come back on-air, I get to "taste" a few new ones.  It's a real "treat" around here.  So much so that I have a list complied of all the new shows I want to watch and their start dates because really, who wants to miss the pilot of possibly the next best thing on the boob tube?  Hey, when the kids go down at night, it's the one small thing I've got...you know, escaping into an alternative reality.  Sad?  Maybe a tad but it is the #1 thing I look forward too when the leaves begin to change color and the cooler weather rolls in...me, my fuzzy PJ's, my long-haired legs, a warm drink and my TV. LMAO!

Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday Blog Hop! A PEE-PEE Shield...

I bitched all about this talked about this on Tuesday (& how Daddy Dave thinks it's despicable that I bought the Canadian Flag)...Why Has No One Invented THIS (see below) Before Totally Blows My Mind!!!

It's a "Pee-Pee Shield" for Potties...You Know, to "shield" the walls and floors from little boys "aims" or lack there of.

Brilliant.  I know!
Dragon's Den & Shark Tank Here I come...

PART III Bribery, A Timer, A Chart & A Party!

I thought it was time for a little update on my Bribery, A Timer, A Chart & A Party posts last week.  I am happy to say that I have survived with a little help from my good friend "Merlot" but no thanks to my super-dooper "plan-o-action".  An explanation is in order...

I've dropped the whole timer thing, the training pants are neatly washed and tucked away, the party was somewhat a bust, although it WAS fun BUT I've totally kept the whole bribery aspect of this process!

After being hounded receiving ongoing advice to allow the kids to go bare a$$ in an effort to elevate my stress and increase their chances of success, I decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a shot.  I was convinced that it was going to be a "$hit $how", literally, and that I would be forever following my little bums around the house with a rag and bucket to clean up their "messes" BUT I was surprised to find out that  BARE A$$E$ = SUCCESS! Who would have thought? Oh right...all those hounders awesome friends of mine who used this technique and made suggested that I should too...LOL!

At first glance it may appear that Ave is having more "successes" however, this is not the case.  She just pees more than Bryce AND he likes to stick his sticker on top on one another.  I haven't decided if she has a small bladder or if she has just caught on to the whole BRIBERY aspect of this toilet training thang??  You know...how every time you pee you get a "treat" thang?!?!  LOL!

After removing the training pants and letting them run around sans underwear, accidents have been almost eliminated...It's AMAZING!!  The only (major) challenge has been poor Bryce...he goes over to his potty to pee but he just can't seem to "aim" the flow appropriately.  For the last week he has been "watering" the wall and floor all around his potty...it's been very frustrating for me AND him.  Seriously, why on earth has someone not invented a "pee-pee shield" adaptor for potties???  And I'm not talking about that tiny little flap that sits in the front either!  I mean really...can you say useless?  Besides, not ALL BOYS learn to pee sitting down (I wish my son had but he refused and I had to move to PLAN B).  Introducing the "Patriotic PEE PEE Shield"...

Daddy Dave almost lost it when I came home with the plastic placemat that donned the Canadian flag.  He was adamant that we could not use this as our prototype because it was dishonoring our country.  PUH-lease!  In my defense it was the ONLY plastic placemat they had at the dollar store (that I was willing to stop at).  Anywho, a little packing tape and cleaver adhesion and TA-DUM...

And YES...It sure does work!

Now it's on to the whole "underwear" thing.  You know where they have to pull them down in time to make it to go ON the potty thing. *SIGH*   I think we'll wait a couple more days.  Baby steps Ginger...baby steps!

Happy Tuesday Friends!!!

UPDATE ON THE WHOLE CHEERIO/FRUIT LOOP SUGGESTION (see comments below)....

Some people know me soooooo well, I didn't include it in the above post because it really didn't help the whole "aim issue"...LMAO!

"Ice Cream"! Mama Loves...

It's been a couple weeks since I've linked up with Julia over at Pontifications of A Twin Mom for her weekly Mama Loves segment only because THIS Mama hasn't been lovin' too much lately...LOL!

The kids have not been eating very well this last week due to our POTTY TRAINING efforts.  I've been shamelessly stuffing then with salty and sweet snacks in an attempt to reward their successes and to tantalize their taste buds to make them drink copious amounts of fluids.  It's working!  But their nutrition has suffered, somewhat, as a result.

"ICE CREAM" to the rescue!  Well, it's not REALLY ice cream.  It's frozen yogurt tubes and the kids LOVE THEM & so does Mama!!

The kids are begging for "ice cream" and I have not one ounce of guilt handing over the tubes AND letting them believe that they are, in fact, eating ice cream.  Hey!  What they don't know...won't hurt them BUT it will give them a little healthy nutrition that they are desperately needing right now during our Potty Training Boot Camp!

Ave Screams...Bryce Screams...MAMA SCREAMS for "Ice Cream"!!!

Watcha Loving This Week?  Go on...CLICK OVER and share with other Mama's!!

Songs That Make Us Sing Saturday Blog Hop! My Two Little Fireflies...

It's been a VERY HARD week in our household.  Can you say POTTY TRAINING HELL?????

One of the MANY songs I played over & over & over as my two little dumplings grew in my belly (I use that word only because the word uterus sounds wrong in the context....somehow...LMAO!) was Fireflies by Owl City.  It made me feel happy & warm inside.  It brings so many wonderful memories rushing back and I can't help but feel relaxed, comfortable and absolutely WONDERFUL!!!  Crazy?  Maybe a little?!?!

Nevertheless, this week...one of the roughest since those two little dumplings came home from the hospital the first week of February in 2010....I remember the absolute "joy, love & anticipation" I felt while listening to this song.  So, in some kinda attempt to help me get through this VERY trying time I like to call "Toilet Training Torture"!

Happy Weekend Friends!!!
May the Potty Power Be with You AND Also with ME!!!

I believe In The Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny & The Big Guy Himself...Santa Claus!

I am linking up with Mama Kat for her Pretty Much World Famous Writing Workshop...I finally got me some inspiration...thanks Mama!

AssignmentDescribe a moment where you or your child lost a part of childhood (realizing Santa isn't real, etc.)

I am re-posting a part of a guest post I did over at MaMe Musings last December and adding a few more "lost childhood" moments for your reading pleasure.

When the"IS HE or ISN'T HE REAL" (Santa) question came up for me as a child it was one of the most memorable, devastating AND greatest life lessons I learned during my childhood.  Rewind about 30 years...

It was a long time tradition at my house that my mom and I would gather in her room and wrap Christmas presents.  I looked forward to this most.  Aside from Christmas morning, of course.  I fancied myself as a "professional" gift wrapper.  I learned at a very young age the "art" of cutting the paper ever so perfectly so that the corners would fold "just right".  I loved to don the parcels with ribbons and bows galore...sometimes to the extremes, read tacky.

Anywho, the way it would work is that my mom would sit on one side of the bed (on the floor) and wrap and I would sit on the other side, so we couldn't see each other's gifts we were wrapping.  I was always responsible for wrapping her friends gifts and that somehow made me feel really important.   When we were done each gift we would place it up on the bed and admire one an others "talents".  I never paid much attention as to who's presents she was wrapping, I was far more interested in comparing my "wrap job" to hers. (I always thought mine was far superior...for the record...LOL!)   I was probably about 8 or maybe even 9 years old when I looked over and read the tag on one of the gifts she had wrapped...I was SHOCKEDHere is the conversation that ensued, the best I can recall:

Me- "To Ginger, From Santa.  WHAT?  How can this gift to me, be from Santa?"  All of a sudden all those comments I had heard for years from the kids at school flooded back into my mind.  The ones where the kids talked about how Santa wasn't real.  I was one of the few who never paid much mind to those statements and would often challenge and "defend" the big fat guy's validity.

Mom- "Ummm.....Ummmmm....I thought you knew?"

Me- "Knew what?  That he isn't real.  Are you telling me he isn't real?"  In hindsight, I was being overly dramatic about the whole thing.  But in my defense, I felt like my entire existence was now in question.  How could THIS BE

Mom- "I really thought you knew." Poor mom.  She felt so bad.

Me- "I guess I do now." I was so defeated.  Sad.

Mom- As always, my mom knew just what to say, "Santa IS real Ginger.  He lives in our hearts and he is the spirit of  receiving but more importantly, of giving.  Santa will always come to our house, every year, as long as you believe."

I was positive that had I stopped believing at that very moment, Christmas would be forever ruined.  I never questioned if Santa was real again. Never. I also learned that the Christmas season was more about giving, than receiving.  That Christmas, I bought my Cabbage Patch doll tons of presents from Santa.  All the gifts I purchased for my parents...yup, you guessed it...they were from Santa too!  I remember feeling such elation and joy, dispite the heartbreaking truth I had learned only a few weeks beforehand.

Fast forward a couple months after that Christmas...I lost a tooth.  When that sucker popped outta my mouth my first instinct should have been to get it under the pillow for the Tooth Fairy to bring me some cold hard cash BUT it wasn't.  Nope.  Instead I wrote "The Tooth Fairy" a long letter.  I can't remember what it said because that wasn't what was really important...not at all! You see, since I had just found out Santa wasn't "real" I thought I'd best test the waters on my hunch that the Tooth Fairy was also not "real".  Ya, I was a sneaky kid.  In a good way though.

Morning came and as anticipated there was some cash under my pillow and the note was gone.  I held on to the glimmer of hope I had that the Tooth Fairy might be for real as I looked in my wastepaper basket and it was empty.  As I made my way to the garbage in the bathroom I had a little skip in my step which quickly turned into a mini-jig when I did not discover my note there either.  I was just about to raise my hands and sing a song of "Hallelujah, not all is lost...the Tooth Fairy exists" and then it hit me.   NO!  No, it will NOT be in there.  I slowly made my way to my parents bedroom and quickly glanced over the dresser at their trashcan...my heart sank.  I grabbed the crumbled up paper and ran to the top of the stairs yelling..."WHAT IS THIS???  I knew she wasn't real either!!!"  Before I could get too worked up, I heard my mom yelling at my father...

"I TOLD you NOT to put that letter in the garbage Barry!!"

To which my father calming replied, "What the hell is she doing rooting around in garbage's anyways?"

As my mom ran up the stairs to do "damage control" she yelled back, "I just knew it was a trap.  I told you if was a TRAP!!!!"

Mom did her best to calm me down and went through the same "...as long as you believe...blah, blah, blah" speal and on I went with my day with another lost part of my childhood to contend with.

Easter was a few weeks after that and I just "went with it" and had a blast searching for my Easter eggs on the annual, much anticipated hunt.  I graciously and appreciatively accepted my basket of goodies from the Easter Bunny, even though I knew mom & dad were the ones to be thanking.  I  had no tricks up my sleeve that Easter.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  LMAO!

And for the record, each and every tooth I lost after that went right under the pillow and cash "magically" appeared.  After all, my mom told me IF you just believe...

Wordless, Wordful or Whatever Wednesday Blog Hop! Privacy...what's that?

We started POTTY TRAINING on Monday and even had a POTTY KICKOFF PARTY!!

We've had some success so far but I'm thinking that maybe a little privacy is in order?!?!?!

Having mom stick the camera in your face every time you are trying to do your business may be a tad hindering???  LMAO!

Oooops...sometimes with good intentions you set yourself back unintentionally!!

Would love to see YOUR Wednesday post...come on and link up!

PART II Bribery, A Timer, A Chart & A Party!!

So I talked about how I've decided to use bribery to toilet train my kids yesterday and today I want to share with you the whole "Party" aspect of that process.

It's important to know that I LOVE to throw parties.  L-O-V-E!  I will throw a party for just about any reason...

  • Ya!  The Garbage Was Picked Up
  • WooHoo!  The Laundry Is Done
  • It's the 3rd time Drew Barrymore has got married....P-A-R-T-Y!!!

You get the picture...LOL!  Point being; it should come as NO surprise that when the time came to potty train Ave & Bryce I just HAD to throw a party!  And I'd like to send out a big THANK YOU to Creative Juice for all the inspiration behind yesterday's swaray.

My newest Bestie and I met in our twin prenatal classes and we have become great friends.  She gave birth to her children just 10 days before me.  Needless to say, we connect on so many levels and that is why we decided to throw the party together in celebration of our baby boys and baby girls becoming "Big Kids Now".  It was extremely supportive to have her here yesterday morning as we rolled out the "Toilet Trail" and began paving the uncharted course from diaper to potty.  I had some moments of "WTF?" and she had a couple "WTH?" thoughts but together be forged upwards and onwards.  We plan to have either a mid-week potty-play-date or a Friday Celebration Day....depending on how things progress on both our ends.

Without further delay, come take a peek at the big POTTY KICKOFF PARTY...

What's a PARTY without balloons and streamers?

Oh! And a sign for the guests of honor?!?!

A fully decorated table fit for our princes and princesses...

Complete with Personalized "Big Girl & Big Boy" Cups!

I am a hostess who likes to give their guests a little "(Potty) Loot Bag" which was filled with all the essentials for a pleasant toilet experience!

And who doesn't love to play a game at a party?  Each kid got a new pair of ginch/gonch as a prize!

This is what I coined "Toilet Trail"
(Yes, we crammed 4 potties, 4 charts & all potty training essentials into this tiny hallway.  Note the paper towel roll to clean up the accidents?)

And to end our Potty Kickoff Party, we celebrated our minor successes with cupcakes!

And how did Mommy Survive you ask?
I'm kiddin'!  It was only 12pm...I waited until 4pm to crack that sucker open!!  LMAO!

Stay Tuned For How This Whole Potty Training Progresses...Send Us Strength Luck!

Bribery, A Timer, A Chart and a Party! Potty Training Ginger's Way!

The moment I have dreaded since giving birth has arrived upon our household.  Potty Training.  I can't express with enough emotion how greatly I did not happily anticipate this moment.  So much so, that I have effectively, meaning used diapers with little guilt and all the conveniences of them, avoided toilet training Ave & Bryce for 2 years and 8 months. It was time.  Actually, it was overdo. And so, I starting the daunting task of figuring out the "HOW"...

Like any GREAT MOM I decided to go with Bribery, A Timer, A Chart and a Party!

The Charts
*These are 3 week charts.  I figured if I was going to "go for it" I had better make it for AT LEAST 3 weeks long!

The Pee Bribes
*They get a skittle for sitting on the toilet and another one if they pee PLUS a sticker for their chart!

The Poo Bribes
*These are a variety of dollar store toys like bracelets, dinosaurs, night lights, etc. PLUS a big sticker for their chart

The No Accident Bribes
*These are LARGER bribes like big books, musical instruments, wood puzzles, etc.

The Timer
*More for Mommy than the kiddies, every 15 minutes it's off to the toilet we go!!

The Toilets
*Can you say "DEAL OF THE WEEK?"  These were only $18.00...awesome!

*That needed it's own post...LOL!*

So far...not bad.  The morning of the party was a little "rough" but I mean really, they had one successful pee each and a ton few accidents but after their nap, Ave stayed totally dry and pee'd 6 times.  PLUS had a bowel movement...SWEET!!!!  Bryce, well, he'll get the hang of it soon enough!

I shall keep y'all posted on the progress.  We are aiming for fully trained twins by tomorrow the end of the week...we shall see!

2. Pick A Song...any song that makes you wanna sing! Old-New-Country-Pop-Punk...anything goes. (Let's try to keep it family friendly if we can...LOL) If you want, tell us why the song makes you wanna SING!

3. Add your link to the "Playlist"

Since the first time I heard this song it got be groovin'!  Ya sure, I don't show "thugs love" and I always thought the line "You're a symbol of what every beautiful woman should be" was actually, "You're a symbol of what every BIG BEAUTIFUL WOMAN should be."  I suppose I always envisioned him singing it specially to ME so I adapted it a bit...LMAO!

Anywho, it reminds me that I AM beautiful and I hope it puts a skip in your step because YOU ARE Beautiful too!

(Holla!  Akon, you are SO beautiful too!)

F.A.T. Friday! A Double Feature...

Welcome to my weekly edition of F.A.T. Friday.  No, not FAT as in F-A-T but as in Forging Ahead Together to get/stay healthy!!

This Week's Suggested Topic WasWhat’s your support system like?  How do family and/or friends support or not support you?  Do you reach out to strangers via message boards, blogs, etc.?  In addition..."Say Cheese!" it's picture time...come on, show off your success!!!

I have a great support system.  I always have.  My mom has been my biggest cheerleader since I was kid and has always supported me to be as healthy as I can be.  My dad has also been supportive, in his own way, throughout the years.  Daddy Dave is always someone I can count on to be in my "court" and his love for me is not dependent on a number on the scale.  My friends, mostly, are extremely supportive and love to hear how I am doing on this journey.  All their supportive words and showering of verbal praise about my success so far is truly empowering.  But...
...as the years go by and my attempts at weigh loss grows and my long term success weans, it's hard for those closest to me to stay "super-supportive" and I get it.  I. Totally. Get. It.  I mean really, how many times in one lifetime can you get super excited and "pumped" about someones dedication to weight loss when in actuality their success is short lived or sometimes not sincere?  It's kinda like the serial cheater who says they will never do "it" again or the alcoholic that swears up and down that "this" is their last drink...forever...only to have them "re-offend".  It's heartbreaking and extremely discouraging for them AND for you as their supporter.  Being an "offender" I can honestly say that there comes a time when you can't depend nor should you rely on family & friends to "ra..ra..ra" you through what NEEDS to be YOUR life change.  The success and/or failure needs to be YOURS and YOURS ALONE.  I have reached that point and I have embraced it and accepted the responsibility thereby lifting that responsibility off my loved ones.  Your Welcome.  LOL!
One of my "NEWEST" supporters comes from a surprising place.  At least for me.  You see, the first time I did the Dr. B. Diet, the weekly 3 day a week weigh ins were much like going to sterile, baron Dr's office.  The staff were not at all friendly or engaging.  You weighed in, you saw a nurse, she gave you a "poke" and that was the end of it.  I didn't enjoy having to go there because my successes were never celebrated or even acknowledged.  I dreaded having to go weigh in on days i had "slipped" because when I had a "bad" day, they would suddenly find their voices and give me $hit!  Blah!  It was a miserable few months.
However, this time around (at a new clinic) I actually look forward to my visits.  It's a welcoming and super-dooper friendly environment.  The ladies there know me by name, they always great me with a huge smile and when they ask me how I am doing, the "mean" it.  They really want to know.  They love my kids and when I don't bring them in with me, they genuinely miss them.  That makes me feel good.  Now, I'm not the kinda gal who needs ongoing pats on the back or verbal encouragement, especially if it's phony but these woman at my Dr. B clinic feel like friends to me.  Real friends, who care about my success and failures.   I love when I get on the scale and I get a 'Way to Go Girl!  You're down 2 pounds!" or when the number goes up, I like hearing "It could have been worse and at least you had fun right?"  RIGHT!  Those are the kinda comments that keeps me motivated and makes me feel accountable...not guilty.  On the days that I feel like "cheating" or going "off", it's not my family that keeps me accountable, it's THEM. I don't want to disappoint myself OR them.  Thanks ladies!
It's been 3 1/2 weeks since the kids have been to Dr. B and I know when we go in this week it's going to be like a little "family reunion" and that, in large part, is what is "supporting" me to move forward and stay committed to this journey to a healthy lifestyle.  Thanks AGAIN ladies!
As promised, here are some updated pics of my success and the dress I decided to wear to my friends wedding a couple weeks ago...
 Dress #1 Fun & Funky
                                        May 31st - 257.4 pounds           Aug 30th- 238.6 pounds

Dress #2 Chic & Sophistcated
      May 31st - 257.4 pounds           Aug 30th- 238.6 pounds

It feels GREAT to have lost weight & inches!!

That having been said, it's been a rough couple weeks.  I have overindulged and been off program for a few days each week.  It's been a lot of fun and super yummy but it's time to get my a$$ back on track.

Without further ado, here are the past two weeks weigh in stats:
