My Childen's Privacy & Blogging

I just read an article in my Today’s Parents Magazine and I began thinking about the concept of blogging, more specifically in regards to blogging about my children.

When I started to blog just two short months ago, I never really gave it a second thought when I called it “Just Another Mom of Twins”.  In fact, I have had a few “visitors” question that title and ask if I feel insignificant in someway as being JUST another mom of twins (really?!?!).  No, that wasn’t my "intent" and you may want to stay tuned for the BIG unveiling of my NEW blog design when I will go into a little more “explanation” of why I picked that name for my blog and a NEW TITLE! (Ok, not totally new, just an addition of one small word. Intrigued??)

Anywho, my intent was never to solely blog about Ave & Bryce but I definitely knew I wanted to share my (mis)adventures of a SAHM of twins.  As it has turned out, I haven’t really posted very much about that, but I will.  After I read that article, I stopped to think about THEIR privacy because I hadn’t really given that a second thought either.  I pondered it for a minute or two and then came to the following conclusion…I am “ok” with sharing my life with my “blogger buds” and talking openly and candidly about the lives of my children.  Here’s why…

If I can't have Timmies...I want Keurig Coffee!

I got to thinking after my post last week and how much I LOVE Tim Hortons Coffee.  I miss my daily "fix" of the "stuff".  Since having children, my consumption of Tim Hortons coffee has cut in half.  NO, less than half, of what it use to be. (It's just not that easy to jump in the car and grab a coffee anymore...right?!?!?!)  I "pull" a drive-thru about once a week now, rather than EVERY DAY (sometimes it was twice, not often though.)

Now, you could say,  "That's a good thing, your drinking less coffee"  But that's not true.

You might be thinking, "It saves you lotsa money." Ummm....not really.  Here's why...

Before I get "started" has anyone watched that show..."My Strange Addiction"?!?!?  W-O-W! (That's all I can say.)  I watched my first episode this weekend and it got me thinking...we all have our own "quirks" and such, or at least I know that I do!

Which bring me to my "addiction", although I doubt it would qualify to get me some "air time" but I do believe it is an addiction all the same.

I am addicted to accessorising (Aren't we all??).  Not with shoes.  Not with jewelry.  Not with scarfs.  Nope!  With eyeglasses...

I Feel Like I Am Back In College...

Ok, so I survived the Dreaded Dentist Visit WITH sedation meds yesterday but I feel like I just woke up on the morning after one of my "fun & fancy free" party nights, w-a-y back in my college days!  I have large "chunks" of last nights "dance" with the dentist, gone!  My head hurts a little and my stomach feels like there is a "whirl & twirl" ride going on.  Yuck!  

My teeth are nice and clean though! LOL

According to my husbands "re-cap" of the events after he picked me up, I was a busy little lady...

Take A Pill. Go To Sleep. All Done! (If life were only THAT easy ALL THE TIME!)

I am afraid of the dentist!  I know...I know...who isn't! But I truly have a deep rooted (pun intended) fear of the Dentist.  So much so, that I must be “put under” just to get a cleaning.

I am not a “fearful” type of person and in actuality, I rather “enjoyed” (ok, maybe not enjoyed but I was NEVER fearful) going to the Dentist up until 3 years ago.  I am not positive but it could have been the fact that they told be that I was in the beginning stages of Gingivitis...who's isn’t though, I mean really?!?!  And the fact that they used words such as “deep pocket cleaning now required”.  All I know is after that visit, the thought of having them “deep clean” anything did not sound AT ALL pleasant and sure enough when they attempted to do that procedure on me, I went into an immediate panic mode and cut the visit short...right on the spot.  I was not having THAT “drily sound thingie” come anywhere near my “deep pocketed”, pearly whites.

The Dentist was adamant that I needed the cleaning and I was equally adamant that it was not going to happen...then or ever!  He then told me all about this wonderful invention called “sedation dentistry”.  I had heard about people “going under” for dental surgery but never for simple cleanings.  Apparently, if there was ever a good time to become deathly frightful of dentistry, well, I had picked the “right” time.

It’s really rather a simple process, I take 2 pills 1 hour before my appointment.  I get “loopy”.  Someone drives me there and walks me “in” (because you tend to become a little unsteady on your feet after taking sedation medication...who knew...LOL).  I sit in a chair.  They give me more pills.  I wake up and my teeth are cleaned and shiny.  Oh wait!  I skipped a step.  I get driven home from someone who must then almost carry me upstairs and then I sleep for about 14 hours straight THEN I wake up and my teeth are all cleaned and shiny....LMAO!

Any who, I am heading for my yearly “deep pocket cleaning” tonight (Yes, my Dentist is opened until 9pm...strange eh?).  Therefore, because of the above mentioned “simple” process,  I will likely me out of commission tomorrow.  What a “flippin’” production!  But the only thing I fear more than the Dentist itself is the fear of having to have dentures.  So, if I gotta “go under” to keep these pearly whites...so be it!

Morning Blogger Buds!

Just a short n' sweet post this morning. WHAT???  I know, I am never short, except in stature (LOL) but I have a fun filled day with Ave & Bryce...we are heading to the local Farmer's Market and out for lunch! 

Anyways, Richard over at The Butter Bottom Blog (a great dad blogger) referred me to a community of "moms" and I just wanted to share that with you all because it has been less that 48 hours and I have met so many new "blogger buds" & my traffic has increased greatly!

Many of you may already be a member but I couldn't NOT post this just in case you haven't heard of VoiceBok.com .  It only take a minute or two to sign up and then you will have access to some fabulous features.  The community regularly hosts facebook, twitter and blog "share times" which from what I know (which isn't all that much YET...hahaha) is a way to meet new bloggers and drive traffic to your own blog. 

As I said, in less that 48 hours I have had LOTS of people "click-by" and now have 10 new followers!  They have a chat feature, forums, recipes...it just looks like a wonderful networking site.

Sometimes I just Don't FEEL Like Cooking OR Being Healthy!

I confess...I had one of "THOSE" supper making nights...you know the one I am talking about...right?!?!?!  I can't be the only person out there that just doesn't feel like cooking or being healthy sometimes...right?!?!?! (Pleeezzzeee comment and give me some affirmation...LOL)

I am very diligent about providing my family with well balanced, nutritious meals.  DILIGENT I say!  Just not all the time and definitely NOT last night...

Birth Announcement photos so I created this "reel" looking effect. 
(I think I need to "jazz" up their birth stats now that I am looking at this picture...LOL!)

I found these neat "stick-on" 4x6 photo holders.  I just stuck it on the front of the completed
page and now you can flip it over to reveal the ever so precious "1st Baby Pics"

I really wanted some documentation of my pregnancy but I didn't want
8 pages.  So, I shrank the photos and put my 8 1/2 months of pregnancy
pictures on one page!

Today I am Sad...

I am sad today.  No funny, self-centered posts.  One of my dearest friends was pregnant with her first child.  She is not preganat anymore.  Today I am sad. 

I know all too well the feeling of loss and devestation she is feeling, a feeling I would never wish upon my worst enemy.  Today, I send out my love and support to her and all the woman "out there" who have had to experience this loss.  Today, I say a  prayer for her and her husband as well as, all the woman "out there" who are trying to start a family.

What I Love About ME Mondays- I love GNO's!


I live in Cow Town...Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  It's the time of the year I dread most.  The time of year that my husband and I have typically arranged to be AWAY on holidays.  The ONLY time of year that I am NOT devastated when I miss a GNO (Girls Night Out)!

That time of year is.... The Calgary Stampede.  Yup, the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth" or so it's known around the world and by local wannabe Cowboys n' Cowgirls. (Which I take some small offense too because being a Cowboy/girl is really tuff, hard work and when "us" city folks "pretend" to be them...well, I WOULD be offended if I was a hardworking Cowboy/girl...I'm just sayin'.)

I like to refer to it as "Halloween in the Summer" and for the record, I have NEVER wanted to dress-up like a Cowgirl BUT what I love about ME today is that...

Spiritual Sunday- My Daughter Ave

I feel so blessed in life.  I have my health, the love of my life and two beautiful children.  I thank God everyday for trusting me enough to send us two little angel to love and cherish. 

Ave Marie has long been a favorite song of mine, for as long as I can remember.  When I was getting married and I told my mom that I wanted that played at my wedding, she was adamant that Ave Marie was for funerals, not marriage ceremonies.  I spoke with the Minister and he explained the “meaning” of that song in the most simple way.  He told me that Ave Maria is a call to God to intersect and give a “special” blessing through his loving mother.  Therefore, he said, it is a song of “re-birth, new beginnings and blessings”, completely and totally appropriate for a wedding. 

I had the most beautiful woman, with the most beautiful voice sing that on my wedding day...it is one of my most cherished memories of that day!  And who would have thought that our daughter’s name would be “born” as a result of that conversation with the Minister....

It was right after that discussion that I asked Dave what he thought of the name “Ave” for our daughter, should we have one.  Ave, pronounced Awe-Vay, is Latin and means “Hail” or “Holy Salutation”. He thought it was beautiful and we both thought about how “special” it would be to share our story of how she was named.  The story of how we called upon God for a sacred blessing on the day of the “birth of our union” and how we also called upon God for the same blessing for “her” on the day of her birth.  And so, as God would have it, we were blessed with our little baby girl and without a second thought or even a word mentioned, we named her Ave.

She is constantly being called AVE, as in the short form of Avenue or Ava (thinking I’ve misspelled it) and I know some may think that it was a silly-confusing name to call her, especially given some of the WILD names out there these days but at the very worst she’ll have to always be correcting people.  I  hope she will think that the lovely story she has to share when people do ask her about her name will outweigh the inconvenience of constantly having to correct people..only time will tell!

Allow me to leave you with what I think is the second best rendition of Ave Marie...the first was at my wedding!

Who Needs a Vacuum When You've Got Kids?!?!?!?

I am not sure about the rest of you "mommies" out there but my kids are like little tiny vacuums.  Their small fingers pick up anything and everything from my floors.

To be TOTALLY honest, I'm not an impeccable housekeeper by any standards but I certainly wouldn't qualify to be on "How Clean Is Your House?" either. (Or at least I would hope not...LOL)  Still, my kids make me feel like I should be vacuuming every couple hours given the minuscule items they pick up and then carry around clutched in their fists like it was a million bucks. 

Yesterday was particularly bad.  I finally had to snap a picture of the items I managed to retrieve from their "death grips" and this was in less than 1 hour....hmmmm....maybe it IS time to take out that Hoover???  (But I swear I JUST vacuumed the day before!!)

My little vacuums picked up:

A lid to a pen (which I have been looking for...thank you cuties!)
A rolled up piece of tape
A white piece of paper
A blue piece of paper
A yellow piece of plastic

Ok, so I was just thinking what YOU are probably thinking:  NEVER MIND the cleanliness of your home Ginger...you should probably be more concerned with the choking hazards you've got going on!  Ooopps!  LOL

Thank You Blogger Buds!!!

I just have to send a "shout-out" to all my new blogger buds!  You really have made a BIG difference in my life in the short time I have been in this amazing "blogging world"!  Allow me to elaborate...

After picking the kids up this afternoon , I was feeling a little overwhelmed, under-appreciated & undermined.  To be frank...I was "ticked" right off!  I was so ready to post a rant n' rave but before I got started I thought I better play "catch-up" on my blogger buds posts.  Afterall, I WAS away from the computer for a whole 4 hours...LOL!

And so I sat down with a glass of wine and began reading....

Stains on the Carpet...I've Been Waiting 17 months for THIS!

Ok, before I get into the story I just have to give a little background so you can appreciate where I am coming from or more importantly perhaps, where my husband is coming from...LOL!

Just before Ave & Bryce were born in January 2010, my husband I were talking about all the wonderful changes we were going to be enjoying once the babies arrived.  My husband was concerned a little, ok a lot, about some of the not so wonderful changes.  Stains on the carpet being his #1.  (I know, of ALL things, he was worried about stains....geeeeshhh!)  At that time, I suggested we put in linoleum flooring or buy an area rug...but he declined that offer. (See conversation below)
